Synopsis: Paris, 1786. The court of King Louis XVI. A woman (Jeanne De La Motte Valois) whose noble family was dispossesed by the crown years before tries to regain her family's rightful name and title.

However, she is rebuffed every step of the way until she turns to intrigue to regain courtly favor. Using the Cardinal de Rohan and a priceless necklace to gain favor with Marie Antoinette the plan backfires and sparks bitter reprisals from the Queen. Loosely based on the historical events surrounding the purchase of an enormously expensive necklace for the Queen when the people were starving, which helped to spark the French Revolution.
