Synopsis: A semi-biographical period movie about a romance that Jane Austen may have had in her youth. At the opening we find a headstrong young woman who wishes to distinguish herself as a musician or writer and to remain the master of her own heart, much to the consternation of her relations. She then becomes attached to the intelligent Tom Lefroy, who engages and challenges her to see society and her romantic notions in a very new light. This thoroughly entertaining film speculates wonderfully about Jane Austen's formation into a writer of great renown.
