Synopsis: Based on the Booker Prize winning novel by Pat Barker about World War I. The action occurs at a mental hospital in Scotland where shell-shocked soldiers are treated. The real-life war hero and poet Siegfried Sassoon, portrayed by James Wilby, has choosen to be admitted in lieu of a court martial after writing a statement against the war. Two other British officers, including the poet Wilfred Owen, and the hospital's Dr. Rivers (Jonathan Pryce) each in their turn explore the horrors and meaning of war. A compelling story of the toll and price that warfare exacts upon men.
