Synopsis: This extravagant costume drama showcases the life of the iconic Duchess of Devonshire who inhabited and in many ways defined the 18th century Georgian period of England. Her name was Georgiana Spencer (Knightley) and in 1774 her marriage to William Cavendish (Fiennes), the 5th Duke of Devonshire, is arranged by her stern mother (Rampling).

Her marriage to this man is decidedly unromantic and her youthful romantic sensibilities are sorely tested to the point of seeking love outside of her marraige, just as her husband is fond of doing. A splendid costume drama with gorgeous locations this period drama offers a fantastic glimpse into the world of the English aristocracy that inhabited Georgian England.
