Synopsis: Adapted from the Henry James novel (his personal favorite) which tells the story of an American art collector touring Italy with his daughter and their two spouses at the turn of the century. However, their spouses share a secret past that permeates the entire story. The secret motives of each character cause a general sense of uneasiness for the entire group though none are sure why.

The use of a beautiful crystal bowl with an imperceptible crack serves as a perfect metaphor for the story. The Merchant Ivory team delivers great archival footage and lavish production as expected.
