Synopsis: Jane Austen's classic tale of suppressed love and dormant passion comes to life in this great period film adaptation. Set in the opening decades of the 19th century Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) becomes enamored with the dignified naval officer, Captain Wentworth (Ciaran Hinds), but her family persuades her to refuse his attentions due to his lack of fortune and connections. Her affection lies dormant for eight long years until he reappears after the wars. His financial means have increased considerably, while the fortunes of Anne's family have become somewhat reduced. Sparks fly as they reunite and confess their long-held admiration for each other.
