Synopsis: This Masterpiece production gives a more complete account of the classic E.M. Forster novel than the Merchant/Ivory A Room with a View of 1985, though with a little less romantic flair.

Seeking to escape the stifling Edwardian manners at home the young Englishwoman Lucy Honeychurch is on sojourn in Italy, where she experiences a life-altering kiss planted on her by an intrepid young Englishman. However, to protect her honor, she is quickly wisked back to England by her chaperone. Back home she is lost in boredom at the looming prospect of her arranged marraige until she discovers that the true object of her affection has paid a visit to England.
