Cast: Helena Bonham Carter, Linus Roache, Alison Elliot, Charlotte Rampling, Elizabeth McGovern, Michael Gambon, Alex Jennings

Synopsis: A heartbreaking story of deception, betrayal, love, and ultimately regret. Unable to marry her lover Merton without being rendered penniless by a rich aunt Kate Croy seeks a way to have both love and riches. An opportunity presents itself when Millie, a wealthy American girl, befriends her.

However, events spin out of her control when self-interest and jealousy capture the principal characters in a tragic web of deception. Filmed on location in London and Venice with wonderful period costumes, this film adaptation of one of Henry James' best loved novels captures Edwardian England as few movies do.
